While the local Babys R Us carries everything a new mother could ever dream of, the one thing you won't find is this remarkable little European baby bath. A friend in the UK told me I simply HAD to order one for my grandbaby - and she was right. Unlike the large, long plastic baby baths that are offered here in the states, the Spa Baby (also called Tummy Tub) provides an amazingly unique bathing sensation for even the tiniest of babies. Because of it's shape, the bathwater stays warmer and the baby is automatically placed in a fetal position. The combination of both is a sure-fire way to calm a fussy baby!
My new favorite baby shower gift to give is one of these unique tubs, along with a basketful of baby bath items (shampoo, soap, lotion), washcloths, as well as a little hooded bath towel and matching robe. Always a hit!!!! |
Simply the best!

I actually imported one from Germany after seeing my sister use it with her son - he seemed so relaxed and happy in it, and washing the child wasn't as awkward as in regular tubs because you have access to both back and front. I'm expecting my first baby in March and can't wait to try it out!
One thing though - the markup is incredible! In Europe, they are sold for about 20 Euros. |
Bathtime is fun

I'm a family doc who has watched kids in these things. They love it! If they are fussy, they calm down pretty quick and love to bounce when they are newborns. The water should be about 100F for comfort, but the shape helps keep the water warm. We try to have one for all our mothers at the hospital.
The Kitchen Sink

My son who hated baths loves his spa baby! Now we both actually look forward to baths instead of dreading them. Here's a little tip if you have a small bathroom like me. Try putting the Spa Baby in the kitchen sink. That way you don't have to lean over, you can keep all the washing stuff right next to you and it's easy to dump out the water when you're done. If your baby hates her lie down bath then you have to try the Spa Baby experience. The difference is really pretty amazing.
Baby loves it!

We purchased this tub after friends, family, and our pediatrician recommended it. Our baby loves bath time and it is a great space saver and portable unlike many of the large plastic tubs.
Love this tub!!!

I received this tub as a gift from my aunt (who's a midwife) when I had my 3rd and wish I would've had it for all 3 of my boys!! My little guy never cried when he took a bath in this tub - it was warm and cozy for him, he wasn't sitting in an inch of water, like the regular tubs, and I didn't break my back leaning over the tub! :) I'd put him in the kitchen sink and bath away! Here's a side note bonus I discovered at Thanksgiving - it's great for thawing a 20+ lb. turkey (and for brining!) :)
love it!

My daughter loves it! She stays warm during the whole bath because the water comes up around her shoulders. She would shiver the entire time with our other bath no matter how warm we made the water. She likes to stand in it at first then ease her way down. It's easy to manuver her around so we can get all of her parts clean. The best part is that she looks really cute in it. I would recommend. Although a bit pricey.

My daughter isn't really into baths, but she did enjoy this tub. I think full immersion in warm water is nice for wee ones. Also, she could soak in an herbal mixture of oatstraw that is great for sensitive skin. After tub use it doubles as a storage bin for toys and as a tub for soaking and hand-washing delicates.

Really wonderful for new borns, makes the bathing process easy, and also makes the process enjoyable for the baby! Our son enjoys his own little "spa" when bath day arrives.

so...I like the idea, but how does one rinse the suds off her baby? with our traditional baby bath, there is a drain to let out sudsy water while rinsing with fresh water.
is this a fifty dollar bucket?

I have this on my registry because of the rave reviews.... but I'm curious how this is different from A BUCKET? I looked to see if there's any padding or anything else that differentiates it from A BUCKET?
I hope to get an answer soon. Thanks! |
Defintely not the original!

I bought one of these thinking that they are the same as the TummyTub. I soon learned differently as it didn't fit the TT stool I had bought and my baby couldn't sit correctly in the fetal position. Ended up getting the original TT and found a world of difference. Hope this helps!
Great in theory...

We had a small baby and tried three different bathtubs to try to fit her in properly. This tub sounded like a great idea - we thought she'd be a little more manageable in the enclosed space, but it was actually very difficult to maneuver her around to soap and rinse. The company doesn't take returns and they were very nice when we explained our problem. They've got an online video that was helpful, it just didn't help us with our little one and bathing her in this bathtub. Unfortunately, we are selling the tub at a consignment shop and will get way less for it than we paid for it, but such is the world of baby gear!
Hated this tub!

I'm so surprised to read that other people actually like this tub! We received it as a gift while living in the UK and neither my husband and I nor our daughter liked it at all! She was squished into it so that she couldn't move and splash about and we found it really difficult to wash her. Our child also didn't like being swaddled, so perhaps she was just too much of a mover and shaker for this, but I certainly wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
Didn't fit the Stool. Not a Tummy Tub.

A friend got this for us for our second baby (they knew we already had Tummy Tub bath for the first). This is not a Tummy Tub, however, and it didn't fit the TT Stool and our baby seemed somewhat uncomfortable.
